Pinktails selected in SANFWL for NAFC & SAFC -Season 2022

The SANFLW is set to welcome Central Australian talent with players from the Alice Springs-based Pinktails program set to play in the competition during 2022.

Pinktails Swoop at SANFLW Opportunities – Minutes with Moose article

This upcoming season will see several female footballers from the Pinktails get to play in the South Australian Football League Women’s (SANFLW) competition with South Adelaide and North Adelaide.

The Pinktails, and their male counterparts the Redtails, are a part of the Right Tracks Program which aims to develop and build opportunities for young people living in remote regions such as Central Australia.

“It is so important that this SANFL and SANFLW partnership exists and continues for generations to come,” Rob Clarke said.

“… It builds the individual’s understanding that there is a choice to better yourself and if you commit to the positive choices the rewards are there to experience and show the way for others in their lives to help better them,” he said.

As well as sporting pathways, the program also educates and delivers sessions on topics such as life choices, leadership, mental health, school engagement, drugs and alcohol, and employment.

“Real pathways that can be touched by communities segregated by huge distance is something that is simply so important, Clarke said.

On Saturday, the South Adelaide Football Club announced the signing of four Pinktails; Shannon Hanning, Caitlin Couch, Brylee Kerrin and Maya Jakubiszyn (pictured above).

“We are excited to have been able to expand our partnership with the Redtails to now include the Pinktails,” South Adelaide’s Female Football and Football Operations Coordinator Jonathon Parker said.

“The work that Rob and his team do to allow exciting talented footballers to have an opportunity at the SANFLW level is fantastic,” Parker said.

Round One will see Shannon Hanning make her SANFLW debut as the Panthers travel to face Central District, while Maya Jakubiszyn will play in the earlier day’s Development Match.

“Coming from Alice Springs I never thought I’d be playing SANFLW,” Maya said when asked about her recent signing with the Panthers. “The South Adelaide team have been so welcoming and supportive.”

“I can’t wait to play alongside the girls, learn from them but also showcase what us Central Australian women can do,” she said.

Providing great opportunities to its members, this program also has existing partnerships with AFL Northern Territory and its Thunder Academy, as well as the Melbourne Demon’s Next Generation Academy.

Travelling doesn’t seem to be an issue for this program either, with the Redtails previously travelling to face South Adelaide’s zone club Encounter Bay, while also having played against the Casey Demons, Port Adelaide, and even New Zealand’s National team in Auckland.

This partnership with the SANFLW sides is another great opportunity for their players, while also providing the clubs with amazing talent from the Red Centre.

“The Pinktails program has helped me to develop my skills and fitness, as well as open amazing pathways for me to play at a higher level footy,” Maya said when asked about her time in the program.

“Would love to do a shout out to everyone involved in the Pinktails/Redtails program,” she said.

“Special mention to Rob Clarke, Ian McAdam and Darren Talbot who dedicate so much time, energy and patience into the players and the program,” she said.

“And thank you to the Panthers club, I am looking forward to a successful 2022 season both on and off the field.”

All of tomorrow’s action from Round One can be watched with a SANFL Now subscription. We will also continue to improve our coverage of the SANFLW with our updated Team of the Week series.

Then for South Adelaide we hadMaya Jakubiszynplay in the Development team while Shannon Hanning and Caitlin Couchput the Souths guernsey on for the League side. Congratulations Ladies.

This was such positive experience for all our Pinktail representatives and an amazing effort as a result of all their dedicated training leading into this memorable and uniquely special day.

Lara Harding - 9 final preparations, (pictured below), as she is about to run out for her first match in the reserves for North Adelaide Football Club.

How good is the Redtails logo on the North Adelaide playing shorts. Unbelievable partnership going from strength to strength.

Lara’s team went down by 8 points but Lara Hardingplayed an excellent game, playing approximately 90% game time mostly down back with some time in the midfield. Her pressure was awesome and the majority of her skills the same.

Sarah Steele-Park - 36 & Doreena Hansen - 41 pictured below receiving their debut jumpers prior to running out for North Adelaide’s Senior side against West Adelaide. These 2 ladies also managed to make an impact when given the opportunities. Maya Jakubiszyntook a few quarters to get into the game and gained confidence once she got her hands on the ball. Shannon Hanning and Caitlin Couchalso displayed some effective football to impress their Coaches in their League game. All the girls had plenty of positive moments from their first SANFLW experience and some constructive feedback from Coaches to work on for the next opportunity.

RPRTP Facebook post 12.02.2022 -post game

What a day for our very own Centralian Super Stars, paving the way for our current and upcoming young ones.

Two great games of footy where all 7 of our champions contributed. Fairly confident in saying that SA knows who our ladies all are now.

North Adelaide Footy Club got up in both game with the final match being an absolute nail bitter.

The Development game resultsSouth Adelaide Football Clubv North Adelaide Football Club

Maya Jakubiszyn played a solid game up forward for South Adelaide Football Club leading up at the footy and making options for her team mates time and time again.

Kyanne Campbell Bloomfield in her debut game kicked three points and looked absolutely dangerous in the forward line when she had the footy and pressured well with out it laying tackles and smothering the footy.

Lara Harding is going from strength to strength playing across half back repelling everything coming anywhere near her with her aggressive attack on the footy.

Senior’s South Adelaide Football Club v North Adelaide Football Club

Shannon Hanning was absolutely dynamite in the back line for SA, tacking Mark after mark and throwing herself into every single contest, I think NA though there was two of her at one stage. Racking up 11 kicks 6 marks 3 handle balls & 4 Tackles. Remarkable game. Named 5th best for South Adelaide.

Caitlin Couch for her debut game and the 90th woman to pull on a South Adelaide Senior Guernsey, was as solid as ever looking more than comfortable at this level , playing in a role she rarely if ever plays as a defensive forward. Caitlin is all class with, 7 kicks 2 marks 4 hand balls & 1 tackle.

Sarah Steele-Park Once again, Sarah was everywhere with an unstoppable work effort and team first attitude. I’d suggest she will be named in North’s best once the results are out. Sarah racked up 9 Kicks 1 mark 6 hand balls & 4 tackles with pressure effort after pressure effort.

Doreena Hansen hit her straps and was the possible difference in the end with 4 scoring shots 2 goals/2 behinds. She was basically unstoppable at one point when the ball hit the ground, Doreena at full pace would simply turn sprint gather goal.

The whole day was an absolute success for our 7 Central Australians.

SANFLW -Round 3 Indigenous Round 19&20.02.2022

So proud of these incredible women and the dedication, sacrifice and outstanding ability to take this all in their stride. It’s simply UNBELIEVABLE!

All four teams that they played for didn’t get the W, two were within all but a kick, one a few goals and one was a one-sided contest. Most of the footy played over the two days was at incredible high velocity and absolutely physical.

Kyanne Campbell Bloomfield kicked her first goal for the North Adelaide Football Club and the rest of our amazing Centralian’s played their hearts out.

Sarah Steele-Park, Doreena Hansen & Kyanne Campbell played on Saturday afternoon after arriving in Adelaide Friday. They had the full support of Vanessa Stokes, Maya Jakubiszyn & Shannon Hanning who watched on in the stands prior to their games on Sunday afternoon for South Adelaide Football Club

The North mob returned at 6am Sunday morning while the South mob fly back to Alice 6am this morning. All will be back at work straight after landing and then to training tonight.

No doubt these opportunities are awesome but the effort, dedication and shear strength required is real, no doubt at times daunting and they are most definitely earned.

Watching all of these young women growing into leaders is priceless. Keep strong, keep growing and stay on course, the genuine support and interest from not only Centralian’s but South Australian’s is growing.

SANFLW Round 4 - 26.02.2022

A wrap from last weekends amazing experience for 15 of our young stars, 10 men in the NAFC trial game and 5 women in SANFLW. Positive feedback was the common theme from the weekend. Boom.

Vanessa Stokes suited up for South Adelaide Football Club’s Reserve side and Shannon Hanning playing her fourth game in a row for the Panthers, played in the Senior side against Norwood. Shannon clocked up 6 tackles, 4 kicks, 1 handball & 1 mark, but it was her desperate efforts that stood out and her clever taps to advantage in the rough and tumble. Nessa’s team had a hard day going down by a fair bit, but in true Vanessa style, she kept at it all game, with forward building pressure as if she was playing backline, hitting contest after contest.

Kyanne Campbell Bloomfield is certainly starting to find her feet, by kicking 1 goal 2 in her third showing for the North Adelaide’s Reserves. To finish the game with a memorable moment she kicked the winning point to seal the game by a point against Districts.

In North Adelaide Senior side, you could say that Doreena Hansen, had her break out game following up from her two goals a couple of games ago. Doreena kicked 2 goals this week, as well as attacking the ball with intensity and emitting pressure acts that enabled her to directly assist at least 4 other North goals in their win over Central’s. Doreena must of impressed her Coaches as she made it in the team of the week.

Sarah Steele-Park is going from strength to strength and is a huge part of North Adelaide’s Senior side midfield dominance, her ability to run and support while applying pressure to the opposition is brilliant and although it didn’t always get recorded in the end of game stats, when watching from the sideline, her influence on the play is quite obvious. Sarah came away with 7 tackles, 4 marks, 9 kicks, 3 handballs and 3 clearances.

An incredibly busy yet fruitful weekend.

SANFLW Round 5 - 5.03.2022

Shannon has been incredible over the past several weeks for South Adelaide Football Club, in conversations with Head coach Rick Watts, it is clear that this champion young Centralian has been one of the most consistent Panther performers across the first 5 rounds. Unfortunately, she was assisted from the field in yesterday’s strong win against West Adelaide. We aren’t sure exactly what has occurred but we are certainly crossing all fingers and wish Shan a speedie recovery.

SANFLW Round 6  – 18th & 19th March 2022

Another huge weekend of Centralian’s from the Redtails Pinktails Right Tracks Program in the SANFLW season and SANFL trial series.

Sarah Steele-Park & Doreena Hansen started the weekend off as they flew in Friday night and arrived at Norwood’s home ground at Coopers Stadium with about 50 mins to spare before the first bounce between North Adelaide Football Club v Norwood. Both were a huge part of the win x 62 points, with Doreena having multiple shots on goal and scoring 1 goal & 2 points with many electrifying bursts through the packs and pressure acts. Sarah was her usual work horse self with 2 shots on goal herself, coming away with a point. Her absolute incredible ability to cover the ground was on show and her second half was brilliant. Sarah’s stats tally for the game: 7 tackles 10 kicks 4 handballs and 4 clearances covering 8.3 kms.

Brylee Kerrin then made her Senior debut playing alongside Caitlin Couch for South Adelaide against Woodville West Torrens where they also came out on top after a close fought win. Caitlin was solid as ever, with pressure act after pressure act, playing an absolute team game in the midfield, blocking, chasing and tackling from the start to the finish. Brylee started off a little overwhelmed but soon started to show her ability to evade and create. Brylee was so close to converting through the big sticks with a running goal but missed to the right. With the game on the line at the end of the third quarter, Brylee playing forward took it upon herself to push hard defensively and intercepted a ground ball, stepped and delivered the ball to her team mate extinguishing a possible scoring opportunity for WWTFC.

In the final game for the weekend Vanessa Stokes
play in the Reserves. Vanessa was named second best on ground for South Adelaide which was well deserved as she deflected WWTFC inside 50’s time and time again, with awesome pressure and clearing kicks. Her physical strength and well executed presence was obvious to all. Sadly, the South ladies didn’t get the win but fought all day to the very end.
