The Pinktails Squad flew to Darwin on the 1st February to verse Wanderers at TIO Stadium on the 2nd February 2019.

Pinktails verse Wanderers at TIO Stadium 2nd Feb 2019

We were fortunate to experience the Michael Long Centre facilities and accommodation, so amazing with everything there from dining area, boarding rooms, medical room, gym and pool/ice baths, team chat room and change room with individual locker spaces and so on. It felt like we were in Melbourne.

The morning of the game was a typical build up type of day prior to a rain with plenty of humidity to create a sweaty and stifling atmosphere. This didn’t dampen or discourage our Pinktails group, they were keen to take up the challenge and hit the impressive field at TIO Stadium.

1st Quarter: Our Pinktails got straight into business and had good tempo and momentum, with strong and efficient ball movement from Grellman and Miller in the ruck and exceptional ball gathering skills form midfielders Lovell, Dunn, Davis, Weily, Abbott, Petyarre, Riley and the Hunter twins and Patterson-Dunn out wide to propel the ball to our forwards Birch, Ellis, Haranischfeger, Neck, Hill and Fraser who created opportunities for Dunn, Birch and Hill to put a goal each on the scoreboard for us plus 3 minors to give us a lead of 21 points after the 1st quarter. Hartung, Wilson, Davis-Tahere, Crowby, Liddle, Remfrey and Stokes set up a formidable defensive line and executed many spoils, athletic intercepts and contested marks to prevent Wanderers from scoring anything for the quarter.

2nd Quarter: The Pinktails continued with their upbeat tempo and ball movement, delivering some remarkable support and backup all over the field. Defence built the unyielding and impassable wall once again with Stokes's strong marks and dependable support from Liddle, Remfrey, Crowby and Wilson to prevent Wanderers from scoring once again. Ellis got on the score board with 2 great goals, joined by Weily, Hill and Haranischfeger adding one a piece to extend our lead to 56 points going into the half time break

3rd Quarter: After a short break in the Ice-Cold Interchange Room to try and drop their body temps and recharge, the Pinktails got back into business adding another 3 goals, 1 by Miller and Haranischfeger with an impressive 2 goals, which had the interchange bench in a frenzy extending our lead to 77 points. Our pressure and presence all over the field was dominant and commendable as the Pinktails contingent continued to work hard and support each other with some great shepherds and ball movements.

4th Quarter: It was evident that the Pinktails Prodigies had worn down their opposition finishing off strongly with another 5 goals as Ellis nailed another 2 and Wilson, Monet Hunter, and Lovell added 1 each for a well-deserved 103-point win. Wanderers didn’t relent on their efforts either and were rewarded with their first and only goal for the game, which was greatly attributed as a result of the impressive and inspiring work carried out by our defence and midfield. It was also a huge effort by our solo Runner -Andy Hood (great training for his upcoming New York Marathon). Well lead by Coach Clarkey and his Assistants – Ian McAdam, Sheralee Taylor and Luke Adams. A massive Thank you to Pip Tessmann as our Sports med/Trainer/ Physio and more great support and help with setting up from Rebekah Boyle as well as Running water with Tahlia Holtz. Thank you Everyone.
